igus® energy chains are used throughout the production area and in all machines – from power supply for internal indoor cranes and gantry cranes to bundling the countless power and control cables in the systems produced. The many application areas for these energy chains has led to the development of a close partnership between Deckel Maho and igus®. DMG machines are increasingly using mounts in the form of chains for various milling machines, drills and other tools. Chains are more expensive to produce than strapping or disc magazines, but, in relatively little space, they offer up to 90 workstations a capacity that is unrivalled by other designs. Plain bearings are pressed into the chain links to ensure smooth running and fault-free machine tool operation. For a long time, the bearings used were Teflon-coated metal bearings.
Due to the positive experiences with the bearings in the tool chains, Deckel Maho has in the meantime switched over to plastic bearings of the Cologne plastics specialist for other applications - and this applies not only to Seebach. Whether in the application in sliding doors of machine-tool enclosures or other moving parts: The trust in the igus® plastic bearings grows and steadily elicits new application potentials. New researches and trials with new materials for bearings are at present conducted in close cooperation between Deckel Maho and igus®. From the findings, the persons in charge promise path-breaking results that could be of great interest for completely different industrial sectors. However, the utmost observance of secrecy has been agreed upon so far regarding the objective and purpose of this joint project.
