Brake and bogie with maintenance-free iglidur plain bearings

Profile

  • What was required? plain bearings for brakes and bogies
  • Manufacturing process: injection moulding
  • Requirements: resistance to vibrations, low and high temperatures and dirt
  • Material: G1, J350, Q and Z
  • Industry: railway technology - exterior
  • Success for the customer: maintenance-free bearings

Parts in the bogie are exposed to particularly high loads, therefore the bearing sockets used have to be very robust. In addition, there are vibrations, weathering and temperature differences as well as a lot of dirt. As they are made of high-performance polymers, iglidur plain bearings are ideal for such rough application areas and, on top of that, are corrosion-free.

Train brake with iglidur plain bearings

iglidur plain bearings can be used in calipers and brake calipers. More than 50 materials with different properties make it possible that plain bearings can be precisely tailored to the application conditions of these brakes. Even in extreme cold or heat, iglidur plain bearings guarantee full functionality. Therefore, use at application temperatures between -100°C and 250°C is no problem.

In the bogie, iglidur plain bearings run on almost all shafts. Irrespective of whether hardened, soft, steel or stainless steel shafts are used. Typical application examples are the bearings in the anti-roll system. All iglidur materials also contain incorporated solid lubricants, which make additional lubrication and maintenance redundant. By doing without additional lubrication, the plain bearings are weather-resistant and perfectly suited for use in brake systems.

In the frame and at the springs, sliding plates by igus are used. Here, the proven iglidur high-performance materials are extruded in the form of a bar stock plate; then they can be processed and built in individually as required. If necessary, igus will manufacture individual bearing elements and sliding plates for you.
