igubal spherical insert bearings

in the beverage and bottling industry

A bottling plant in Brazil was using conventional deep groove ball bearings made of metal in various conveyor belts. The bearings had to be relubricated every two weeks and maintained at regular intervals. Corrosion on the shafts caused additional downtime.

To avoid this problem in the future, 60 igubal® spherical insert bearings were installed in the conveyor belts as a trial. The standard spherical insert bearings for metallic pillow block bearings and fixed flange bearings are injection moulded from our iglidur® J material. The spherical insert bearings are maintenance-free and corrosion-resistant and need no lubrication at all.

Results

The test results are clear: our igubal® spherical insert bearings remained maintenance-free and wear-resistant throughout the entire trial period. They also absorbed edge loads very well.

Given three minutes of maintenance time per bearing, 24 times per year at 60 bearing points, the time savings is 72 hours per year. Lubricant costs were also entirely eliminated, and the brewery's procurement costs were 80% less than those for metallic bearings.

Installing a total of more than 400 igus® spherical insert bearings in the conveyor belts saved the customer more than €23,000 per year.
