Chain, cable, connector: ready-to-install energy supply system for SAMAG machine tool

• Success for the customer: Following the precise design of the energy supply for SAMAG by our project team, the customer was able to save 2/3 of its usual assembly time.

The SAMAG SFZ-series is a new long-bed machine tool developed from scratch in travelling column design. Y- and Z-axes have a travel of 1,000 mm. And the X-travel can be selected in four steps from 2,500 mm to 7,500 mm. The design focussed in particular on high rigidity and stability as well as high performance, resulting in a large cutting volume. Machining takes place at speeds of up to 40 m/min. and an acceleration of 5 m/s².
For this reason, a cable routing should also be found for all three linear moving axes that can withstand a wide range of requirements. A high service life and reliability of the energy supply should be guaranteed under the environmental conditions of typical industrial production, which is characterised by chips and cooling lubricants. Maintenance intervals should be extended and planning reliability increased. As space in machine tools is always at a premium, the cable routing also had to be compact. Finally, solutions were sought that would ensure quick installation and therefore low organisational costs.

SAMAG found what it was looking for in our e-chain® from Serie E4Q.82  as a  pre-assembled readychain® -energy chain system . Thanks to the pre-assembled cable and connector routing of the readychain® premium version, the installation time on the machine was reduced by around 2/3. SAMAG provided us with all the necessary parameters at the start of the project, such as the required cables and hoses, their harnessing, the length of the travel paths and the available space. As a result, the machine specialist was able to save a great deal of time and organisational effort.
After close planning by our project team together with the contacts at Samag Machine Tool GmbH, the first and second prototypes were installed on site at the customer's premises together with the assembly management, optimisations were developed and implemented promptly.
