CE - The mark for the European market

The European directives stipulate that only products with the CE mark may be placed on the market and put into operation. Product groups such as machines, lifts, measuring devices, and medical devices are examples.
CE
The CE mark is a legally prescribed test mark that states that the product bearing it meets all EU-wide requirements for safety, health protection, and environmental protection in accordance with EU Regulation 765/2008.
“CE” stands for “Communauté Européenne” (“European Community”) and indicates that a product complies with all applicable European regulations and has undergone the prescribed conformity assessment procedures.  Products with CE marks may be placed on the market in any EU member state. The manufacturer is always responsible for compliance with European regulations and thus for affixing the CE mark.

Following the departure of the United Kingdom from the EU, the new UKCA mark has been in force there since 1/1/2021. More information about the new requirements on the British market can be found here.

For our chainflex cables, this means the following:

We follow these guidelines in all developments so that we can sell our cables in Europe without any problems.

CE conformity is based on a complex risk assessment.
Risk assessment – the iterative procedure consists of:
  • Checking the intended use of such elements as chainflex® cables in e-chains®
  • Analysis of conceivable, foreseeable misuse
  • Determination of relevant and valid standards for the production of chainflex® cables and e-chains®
  • Determination of specific requirements and conditions for the use of chainflex® cables
  • Research of the responsible "notified body", for example, the accreditation body DAkkS (institute for the surveillance of all certification, testing and inspection bodies)
  • (Laboratory) tests of the chainflex® cables and e-chains®
  • Evaluating data and preparing technical documentation
  • Creation of the certificate/provision for download
  • Affixing the CE mark to the chainflex® cable

This white paper presents all information clearly and provides a good overview of the effect of the CE mark.
