The Erae 2 from Embodme is a MIDI controller that is primarily used in the music and creative industries. It is aimed at musicians, composers, producers and performers and has a wide range of applications. While the Erae 2 is primarily found in recording studios, it is also suitable for use in live performances, music lessons or in laboratories for sound research.

In addition to its eye-catching design and dominant display, Embodme has also focussed on making the MIDI controller as easy and convenient to use as possible.

This includes the rotary knob at the top right-hand edge of the instrument. This should not only function for as long as possible. The static friction should also be minimised to enable smooth movement and support a pleasant user experience when operating the device.

After a consultant specialising in precision mechanics drew the attention of Embodme's developers to iglidur plain bearing, the company contacted the local igus representative, ordered product samples and sought detailed advice.

The decision for the bearing for the rotary knob of the MIDI controller was finally made in favour of a plain bearing made of the material iglidur J. The bearing guides the knob in the device when it is pressed and also during axial rotation. The specific bearing properties of the material iglidur J benefit the instrument at this point: iglidur J is not only characterised by very good wear resistance and a low coefficient of friction. The low moisture absorption and resistance to dirt and dust also support the long-term function of the rotary knob. And as the instrument does not require maintenance, the bearing works without external lubrication.

Unlike many of today's click rotary encoders, which have a very large clearance and a short click path, the solution designed by Embodme provides a noticeably more pleasant interface for operation.
