Consistency even during a snowstorm

The company Akita Drilling is a drilling rig operator headquartered in Canada. The company operates approx. 20 plants, most of which are located in Canada. Working conditions at drilling rigs such as this oil production facility in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan are sometimes characterised by extremely adverse weather conditions. Components that can easily withstand vibrations as well as storms are critical for the reliable operation of the drilling towers. Specifically, the operating company was looking for a suitable solution for the energy and signal supply on top drives, which guides the drill pipe into the ground and retracts it. The cable solution had to be robust and suitable for integration into the existing system with as little effort as possible.

In the Canadian conveyor system, the system operator finally opted for our e-loop, which replaces the previously used service loop. The modular energy chain system is designed for cable guidance in hanging and three-dimensional applications. A pull rope inside the chain relieves the strain on all cables and protects them from the tensile forces that occur when the top drive moves up and down in the system. The system operator benefits in terms of availability and maintenance, in particular due to the energy chain's considerable weather resistance and robustness as it easily withstands vibrations and impacts. The e-loop even passed a major real-life test - a snowstorm - without problems.
