Lubrication-free bearings for ham slicer

This machine is used in the processing of groceries in the food and packaging industry. Within the plant, which operates mechanically, electronically and pneumatically, ham is further processed by slicing. In this station, bearings are required that, due to the high requirements in the food industry, operate without lubricants and always function perfectly despite frequent and intensive cleaning with chemical cleaning agents. The bearings must also run smoothly in the event of strong oscillation in the machine.

For the bearings in the machine parts with oscillating movements the machine specialist opted for iglidur plain bearings instead of metal bushings. As igus components are completely free from lubrication and maintenance, they are ideal for use in food technology. In addition, bearings made of the iglidur material do not oxidise, which was particularly important due to the frequent cleaning measures and could not be guaranteed with metal bearings. As the bearings are also durable and reliable in the application, the machine manufacturer decided to use them at bearing points with rotating movements at slow speed (e.g. on the cochlea) as well.
