Long-lasting gear shift bearing reduces noise in the driver's cab

This application involves the swing arm bearing of a deflected cab-mounted gearstick in the AXOR-C commercial vehicle 
(SOP 2001) commercial vehicle from Damiler AG.
The car manufacturer had two central objectives with regard to the optimisation of the swing arm mounting: Firstly, to improve driving comfort, the mounting should be flexurally rigid and fatigue-resistant and secondly, it should reduce the noise in the cab caused by vibrations.
In order to work reliably in the gearstick in the long term, the company was also looking for a long-term solution that would not require any maintenance. The choice of bearing material was particularly important here.

By enlarging the bearing point, two iglidur ® G flange bearings could be installed with a non-stepped bolt. The rigidity of the bearing point was thus increased and the vibration excitation of the cab was reduced. This also reduced the noise in the cab caused by vibrations. Friction and wear were also reduced with an additional iglidur® G thrust washers. (Friction partner: flanged bushing / thrust washer). By optimising the coefficient of friction, the component also has a longer service life while no maintenance is required. And in the unlikely event of problems with the derailleur, the bearings can be easily removed and quickly replaced. The simplified geometry and the elimination of case hardening of the bolt have also reduced manufacturing costs.
