Components for aircraft – lightweight and resistant to fire and corrosion
Whether in seats, in the baggage system or in cargo systems: Our high-performance plastics are ideal for a wide range of applications in aircraft cabins. This is because they are lightweight, quiet in operation and lubrication-free. Many of our materials also fulfil the fire protection standards FAR 25.853 and UL94 V0.
They are also resistant to chemicals and salt water. This means they fulfil the decisive prerequisite for use in structural parts and in the exterior of aircraft, such as in wings, fuel pumps or broadband antennas.

All components had to be carefully selected for the prototype of the first two-seater solar aeroplane. It had to be one thing above all: light. Plastic beams were used at various points, such as the wing suspension. Here they replace the metal bearings, as they are lightweight and still withstand the high loads in use.
Discover in this selection of over 40 application examples how our energy chain and bearing products are used in the aerospace industry to fulfil a variety of requirements. Challenges such as high loads, extreme temperature differences, tight spaces or low weight requirements had to be overcome.
This aircraft uses numerous iglidur plain bearings, which are remarkable for their very low weight. Metallic bearings are out of the question as weight plays a major role in the air. Rotors and rudders have been equipped with lubrication-free bearings.
In this glider, various cables for control instruments are ideally guided by an energy chain. Despite the small installation space, the e-chain offers space for further cables. A great advantage is the opening system of the chain, by which individual cables can be easily replaced.
