Reliable mechanical hoe

iglidur plain bearings enable trouble-free operation in highly corrosive environments.

This device is used to loosen the soil in vines. As the working environment is very dirty and sometimes damp, the metal bearings previously used in the moving parts corroded. Only since the high-maintenance bearings were replaced with iglidur plain bearings has the machine run absolutely trouble-free.

Profile

  • What was needed: iglidur plain bearing
  • Requirements: A bearing product was sought that would be durable, maintenance-free and lubrication-free in a highly corrosive environment.
  • Industry: Agriculture
  • Success for the customer: The iglidur polymer bearings replace metal bearings and represent a durable, maintenance-free and lubrication-free alternative. Since switching to polymer bearings, maintenance costs are close to zero.

Problem

This agricultural tool from the French company LEGER sas from France is a type of hoe that is used on vines. It loosens the soil and therefore operates in a working environment that is very dirty and sometimes damp. However, these environmental conditions also caused problems for the moving parts. Severe corrosion over time in combination with high forces led to excessive load on the metal bearings initially used. The corrosion of the components led to high maintenance costs, so the manufacturer looked for a more suitable solution.

Solution

An answer to the corrosion and load problems was promptly found in iglidur polymer plain bearings. These were mainly chosen for this application as they are resistant to corrosion and are completely lubrication-free and therefore maintenance-free. They are therefore the perfect alternative to conventional metal bearings and can easily withstand the high forces in the application. Since LEGER switched from metal bearings to polymer technology, the machine has been running absolutely trouble-free and maintenance work is virtually nil.
