Plastic universal joint
Universal joints enable flexible coupling between rotating shafts. Our study examines the specifications, advantages and challenges of plastic universal joints. These are lighter than metal ones, stainless, chemically resistant and cost-effective to manufacture. However, they offer lower tensile and flexural strength and can lose their mechanical specification at high temperatures.

In a recent study, we analysed the performance and applicability of our KSTM-CL-ECO-pillow block bearing. This consists of the heavy-duty WPC and iglidur N94. WPC (Wood-Plastic Composite) combines the natural specification of wood fibres with the durability of plastic, resulting in a robust yet lightweight housing. The spherical ball made of iglidur N94 offers excellent sliding and wear properties and is self-lubricating, which reduces maintenance costs. WPC consists of 50% renewable raw materials, iglidur N94 even 94%, which reduces the CO2 footprint.The combination of these materials leads to energy savings and increased efficiency in industrial applications.

ESQM 2.0
The ESQM 2.0 is an innovative pillow block bearing for tracking solar modules that is characterised by high performance, simple assembly, optimised materials and reduced installation height. It consists of a split housing and two spherical ball half-shells, which enable angular compensation of up to 9 degrees and a radial load capacity of up to 50 kN. The spherical ball is made of the wear-resistant and chemical-resistant tribopolymer iglidur P UV, which has a high UV resistance. The lower part of the housing is also made of a UV-resistant material and has pins that prevent the bearing from slipping during assembly. The upper part of the housing is a galvanised sheet metal bracket, which saves installation height. In addition, the spherical ball has openings for the guidance of cable along the profile, which enables clean and safe cabling of the solar modules. The second generation of the ESQM is lighter than its predecessor and therefore saves material and costs. The ESQM 2.0 is the ideal solution for the solar industry, which requires lubricant- and maintenance-free, reliable and environmentally friendly tracking of solar modules.
Split flange mounted bearings and spherical insert bearings
The split flange bearings and spherical insert bearings from igubal, which minimise downtimes, offer an innovative solution in the area of assembly. Replacing one-piece bearings after wear can require enormous conversion work, depending on accessibility. With the split solutions from igubal this is now a thing of the past. The bearings can be fitted and removed directly on the shaft without removing other machine elements. Thanks to dry operation without lubrication, they are also absolutely maintenance-free.

Intelligent igubal flange bearings are innovative bearings made of lubrication-free high-performance plastic that are equipped with miniature wireless sensors. These sensors enable continuous condition monitoring and predictive maintenance of the bearing by transmitting their degree of wear wirelessly to a web-based dashboard. This allows users to avoid breakdowns, optimally plan maintenance work and fully utilise the service life of the bearing. They are particularly suitable for applications in which the bearings are exposed to high loads, dirt, moisture or aggressive media.
Food Contact
Since 2019, we have had a catalogue range with food-safe variants of our igubal spherical plain bearings. These spherical plain bearings made of solid plastic are used in various industries and are particularly popular in the food and beverage industry, as they do not require lubricants and are made of materials specially developed for this industry. The blue igubal Food Contact spherical plain bearings are optically and magnetically detectable, absolutely maintenance-free thanks to an integrated solid lubricant, offer a cost-effective alternative to stainless steel bearings and are approved for direct contact with food. Changing from a standard part to a Food Contact variant is easy by adding the suffix "-FC" to the part number. The most common sizes are already available in the online shop.
