Vertical farming

Aeroponics – an innovative form of growing plants in order to produce sufficient food in an urbanised world. The idea: high-rise buildings are transformed into farms, agriculture takes place vertically in future. These cultivation techniques make special machines necessary to supply the plants with nutrients and water A patented traverse system transports enriched water directly to the plant roots. In an empty warehouse in Minneapolis, this method is to be used to produce as much food on around 4000 square metres of floor space as would produced on more than 40 hectares using conventional agricultural methods. The traverse system uses the low-maintenance echains ® from igus®.
