Plain bearings in hinges

For clearance-free movement of convertible tops, spoilers, steps, doors and rear lids

Single and multi-joint hinges are used in various places on the vehicle and are usually fitted with metallic rolled bearings with a PTFE coating. In order to achieve a low-clearance system, however, these bearings have to be recalibrated at great expense. Our solid plastic bushings, on the other hand, simply calibrate themselves through the heat effect during the e-coating process. The result: A low-clearance bearing even with a rough sheet metal hole.

Requirements for bearings in hinge applications:

  • Low-clearance bearing support
  • E-coating suitability
  • High compressive strength

Advantages of igus plain bearings:

  • Tolerance compensation possible through e-coating process
  • No contact corrosion
  • Electrically conductive materials
  • Quiet operation
Markus Feth, Head of Automotive iglidur Bearing Technology, explains the advantages of our polymer plain bearings in multi-joint and simple hinges.
