Problem
Quarries are often difficult to access and require specialised equipment. A mobile stone wire saw is a proven solution for cutting natural stone blocks in quarries as it provides a flexible and effective method for cutting heavy natural stone.
However, the machine must be robust and powerful in order to withstand the hard and resistant rocks. Very high demands apply to the machine's bearing points. Due to the lack of water in the quarry, permanent cleaning of the bearing areas cannot be guaranteed. Contamination of the rock by lubricant must be prevented. igus® ensures that these requirements are met by its parts from the drylin® and iglidur® product range.
Solution
For this area of application, igus offers the drylin® W series, which was specially developed for use in severe environments. These systems use self-lubricating tribo-optimised materials as a sliding element, which gives them high corrosion resistance and a good service life. These specifications make them ideal for use in the natural stone industry, where weather fluctuations and harsh working conditions are often challenging. drylin® W linear guides can be configured online in different sizes. They offer high rigidity and strength to handle loads during the cutting process, ensuring fast and quiet operation and precise control system of the cutting arm.
The Q2 bushings are a central part of the saw. Among other things, this is due to the excellent dampening properties compared to brass bushings. The most important specification, however, is the freedom from lubricants. This prevents the rock from being contaminated by dripping lubricant.
Due to his good experiences with our products, the customer also decided on one of our energy supply systems, the E4Q energy chain with an inner height of 58 millimetres.
Our components make the saw robust and reliable in daily work in the quarry. Schwing and igus are thus creating a sustainable, cost-saving option for cutting stone directly on site and thereby greatly reducing material consumption, time and CO2 emissions in the manufacturing process. Daniel Kriegl summarises his feedback regarding the cooperation as follows: "The support is great, and the igus products really are a perfect match for our application."
