This robot is called "Porton Man" and tests protective clothing for the British military. The developers used iglidur® X plain bearings by igus® in all joints. They did so for good reason: to test whether the clothing protects people against chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear substances, it is contaminated with precisely these. Conventional ball bearings fail when used with chemical substances such as mustard gas or sarin. However, the high-performance bearings of the X series are absolutely resistant against chemicals and very wear-resistant in a temperature range from 100-250°C.
