Goods logistics: product pusher with 16m long energy chain without guide rail

autoglide energy chain for transporting goods between production and storage in furniture production

Guide cables over long distances without guide rails or other blocking structural elements. A typical requirement in goods logistics, but one that can often become a major challenge. Not so in the case of the machine builder Arotech M. Bach, who needed a 16-metre long energy supply for a product pusher for transporting product pallets in the direction of the warehouse. With an autoglide energy chain, the customer can do without the guide trough completely and the space remains free for industrial vehicles.

Profile

  • What was needed: Energy chain autoglide E2/000 AG; chainflex cables; delivered as a pre-assembled readychain
  • Requirements: A cable guidance was required for a 16m travel that does not need a guide trough so as not to impede the movement of goods.
  • Industry: material handling
  • Success for the customer: With the autoglide energy chain, guide rails are replaced by small traversable floor guides that only have to be mounted every two metres. Thanks to the readychain with pre-assembled cables, the customer also saves assembly time and costs.

Problem

Implement the transport of goods directly over the hall floor over long distances without impeding other goods traffic using industrial vehicles. With this specification, the Polish machine builder Arotech M. Bach was looking for a suitable energy supply for a project in material handling. The specialist designed a slider for a furniture manufacturer that safely transports the furniture parts as packages from production to the warehouse over a distance of 16m. And the whole thing is completely automated, without an employee having to monitor the process. The special feature here: since there are many forklifts and pallet trucks on the move in the production hall, no guide rails that could block traffic could be installed on the long travel path of the slider. Accordingly, Arotech was looking for a cable guidance that ran as freely as possible, which could also be installed quickly and easily without a great deal of assembly work.

Solution

After talking to our sales experts, the machine specialist decided on an energy chain solution from the autoglide product portfolio. To increase precision, the company now relies on an autoglide E2/000AG. The biggest advantage of the energy supply is the space-saving design. Instead of a guide trough, the autoglide uses floor guides that are only installed every two metres on the floor to the right and left of the energy chain and prevent it from breaking out. Since they can easily be driven over by industrial vehicles, the floor guides do not block the transport of goods in the production and storage hall. To ensure that the upper and lower runs always run over each other safely, clip-on slide wings are installed on the chain for the first few metres.
The energy chain was ordered together with the chainflex cables as a pre-assembled system, a so-called readychain. This enabled the customer to carry out quick assembly on site without having to insert the cables into the chain themselves. The cables came with Module Connect connectors that allow for quick disconnection of the power system and the entire gear lever in the event of a system element failure.
