Lightweight and reliable -
rod end bearings in a race car

  • What was needed: rod end bearings for the pedal box
  • Requirements: extremely lightweight parts to cut as much weight as possible; parts also had to be lubrication-free and maintenance-free
  • Industry: racing
  • Success through collaboration: Fast delivery, cost-effective manufacture of customer-specific functional components
Finbin, a Finnish company, is developing a rubbish bin that compacts waste with solar energy. The unique system greatly reduces both operating costs and the ecological footprint. The patented technology ensures that waste is compressed at a ratio of 6:1. Another advantage is that
the intelligent rubbish bin autonomously notifies the waste management system of its fill level. The bin functions as an independent unit for public use.

igubal® application example: race car University students on the Arrabona Racing Team, based in Hungary, are building a race car that is to be especially reliable and lightweight.

Problem

University students on the Arrabona Racing Team, based in Hungary, are building a race car that is to be especially reliable and lightweight. The components must be extremely lightweight so that the overall vehicle can be as light as possible. They must also require no lubrication or maintenance.

Solution

The car's pedal box uses igus® polymer plain bearings, which are about 80% lighter than comparable metal bearings. The polymer bearings also ensure maintenance-free dry operation without lubricant throughout the racing season.
