e-skin® cleanroom energy chains

Advantages of the e-skin compared to conventional corrugated hoses:

The e-skin is a hose consisting of an upper and lower shell that form a sealed tube when connected to each other. It consists of igumid SK, a polymer material developed specifically for this. The simple and reclosable opening mechanism enables easy maintenance and inspection of the installed cables. Operating temperature +10°C / +50°C.

Typical applications: Fast, short, unsupported applications, standing and hanging applications, pick & place applications, printers, medical technology and all machines where corrugated tubes are used, display and semiconductor production

Tech up

Tech up

  • 15% higher fill weight (based on the latest test results for the e-skin SK 40 series done in the igus laboratory)
  • 50% more unsupported length (based on the latest test results for the e-skin SK 40 series done in the igus laboratory)
  • Bending radii from 55mm up to 100mm
  • Suitable for cleanrooms according to IPA ISO Class 1
  • 5dB(A) quieter than usual "clean cable"
  • For fast, short, unsupported applications
  • Interior separation system consisting of "tribo-optimised" iglidur material - to further minimise abrasion between the cables

Proof

  • e-skin SK already tested in the Fraunhofer IPA test centre for semiconductor devices based on ISO class 14644-1 and received the certification ISO class 1
Sustainability

Sustainability

  • 99% material savings possible, as you can replace a cable without having to replace the entire system
  • Have your energy chain recycled in the igus chainge recycling programme at the end of its service life. Irrespective of the manufacturer. You will receive a voucher
  • igus supports the circular economy of plastics and is investing in chemical recycling

Interior separation configurator for the e-skin

With the interior separation configurator for the e-skin corrugated tubes, you can create filling variants in just a few seconds and configure complete e-skin corrugated tubes with interior separation and mounting brackets.
  • Easy to fit
  • Avoidance of filling errors due to integrated filling guidance
  • Automatic creation of a parts list and drawing with dimensioning
  • Easy to submit an enquiry about and order the complete corrugated tube with chainflex cables and interior separations in the desired configuration.

e-skin® The improved corrugated hose for cleanroom applications received the 2nd prize in the 2018 Fraunhofer clean technology award.

Technical details

1 Mounting brackets: strong, with integrated strain relief

2 Small installation space: small bend radii

3 Unsupported application due to stop-dogs on the upper shell of the e-skin

4 Cleanroom ISO Class 1: virtually no wear or abrasion

Cable-friendly: defined minimum bend radius

Easy to assemble: Upper and lower shells can be opened for easy filling

igus e-skin

e-skin® Corrugated tubes have consistently the same bending radius
e-skin® e -skin consists of two shells (top/bottom) . The movement can be defined by configuring the shells.
e-skin® Corrugated hoses have little or no inherent rigidity. e-rib is
e-skin® e-skin is suitable for short unsupported lengths in a small installation space (2) and has a defined bend radius (5)
e-skin® No/little stability in case of applied lateral force
e-skin® Lateral stability thanks to the oval (6) geometry of the e-skin
e-skin® Corrugated hoses can not be used unsupported
e-skin® e-skin® supports itself and can be used for short unsupported length
e-skin® Corrugated hoses (for dynamic applications) can not be opened
e-skin® e-skin® can be opened, easy to fill

Tested in the igus test laboratory for use in the real world

Continuous test

Continuous test

Developed for cleanroom applications, the e-skin has been tested under real conditions with 6.4 million double strokes at 3m/s in the laboratory.
Bending test

Bending test

The standard bending tests show how flexible the e-skin soft is. It only bends, even under loads that would break other energy chains.
Noise level measurement

Noise level measurement

This test shows how quiet 'e-skin' corrugated tubes and 'e-skin flat' cleanroom cables are. Compared to the e-skin corrugated tubes, the noise level of e-skin flat cleanroom cable is only 29dB(A).
