Third vector® award
... for inspiring applications with e-chains®
…e-chainsystems® with cables…

Modern plastic energy chains® are the umbilical cord of the automation, machine and plant engineering industries. These energy chains® ensure the safe supply of energy, data, pulses and operating media and are always in motion. Energy chains® are suitable for multipurpose use in the crane and machine tool industries and in the robotics and clean room industries.

Bold applications wanted The vector® award would like to distinguish bold applications in energy supply. These can be produced by versatile energy chains and cables.

Winner 2012

Gold vector® 2012:
KUKA Cobra

KUKA Cobra
Faster, lighter and more compact

This robot becomes faster, lighter and more compact with an additional axis. This innovation makes it possible to increase output and reduce the distance between presses, and combines the dynamism of a linear axis with the flexibility of a robot in a quite unique way.

Silver vector® 2012:
Sludge treatment

Sludge treatment
Largest worldwide

The largest plastic e-chain® in the world, the E4.350 as part of the Amoras project, is used for this application. Brackwater from the Port of Antwerp is routed into the large tanks and the sludge is suctioned off by pumps on the bridge for treatment. The pumps can be moved over the whole bridge length of 150 metres.

Bronze vector® 2012:
Wood working

Woodworking
Endless rotation

This machine is usually used for woodworking. The tool has to be able to carry out numerous different movements in order to follow the workpiece contour, including rotating about its own axis with an overall rotation of 1440 degrees.

Joint initiative

The vector® award is an worldwide joint initiative between igus® GmbH and MM MaschinenMarkt. The jury also includes engineers and scientists representing the German Central Association of Electrical Engineering and the Electronics Industry e.V. and the Machine Tool Laboratory at RWTH Aachen.
The vector® award is under the patronage of the Hanover Fair. The awards will be given at the Hanover Industry Fair (23.-27. April 2012).
